Alpha II-spectrin, also known as Spectrin alpha chain, brain is a protein that is encoded by the SPTAN1 gene. The spectrins are a family of widely distributed cytoskeletal Proteins which are involved in actin crosslinking, cell adhesion, intercellular communication and cell cycle regulation.Alpha II-spectrin gene expression has been shown to be upregulated in cardiac fibroblasts in response to Angiotensin II-induced cardiac remodeling.
As the OD values of the standard curve may vary according to the conditions of the actual assay performance (e.g. operator, pipetting technique, wash technique or temperature effects), the operator should establish a standard curve for each test. Typical standard curve and data are provided below for reference only.

The recovery of Human SPTAN1 spiked at three different levels in samples throughout the range of the assay was evaluated in various matrices.
Sample Type | Range(%) | Average Recovery(%) |
Serum(n=8) | 84-101 | 96 |
Plasma(n=8) | 92-105 | 102 |
Cell Culture Supernates(n=8) | 96-108 | 105 |
Samples were spiked with high concentrations of Human SPTAN1 and diluted with Universal Diluent to produce samples with values within the range of the assay.
